The sun shines down on the dirt path below as you and your friend are singing to the beat of a makeshift drum made out of a fritter bucket. The joy of the Lord is evident as your sandals hit the ground and you are walking back to your base camp. You have been in the Nyawa village in Zambia doing ministry for four days bringing the message of the simple gospel. There is such a joy and peace evident among the team amidst even the heat of the beating sun. You and your tent mate sing a song she wrote, “There’s a river in my soul that I can’t contain that I can’t control. It’s the river that brings me home, sets me there before the throne…Oh God, Oh God, Oh God it’s your river…” The words carry downstream sweeping ahead of you down the path. Your mind flashes back to the day. The first hut you visited was beautiful. It was a little hut with a thatch roof right behind another shelter that was made to store maize in which the family was shucking when you walked up. There were two men, a women, and her children shucking corn. Your translator greeted the family and they welcomed you into their home. Your team sat down on the tarp and the little wooden stools the family provided. Everyone gathers under the shade and you sit down to start shucking corn into the metal buckets. Your team ends up talking about life with them which leads into sharing about the Holy Spirit. By the end, you all get to pray for them to receive the Holy Spirit. You can feel God’s heart so strong for these people. God gives you a cool word for the family you are praying for that instead of bad dreams and night terrors they would have visions of heaven. Later that day, you pray for a momma who was fearful of losing her baby; because she was pregnant and having some complications. It was a divine connection; because earlier that day you met her husband. He had stopped going to church; because he thought that he was unworthy. He had fallen into temptation and married another wife. Your team got to pour into him the love of God and just speak to His value and worth. One person even shared on the story of David how even though he tripped up with Bathsheba how he was still called a man after God’s own heart. The first born child died due to this; but the next child Solomon became King. You got to pray with the second wife whom your team had actually met on a bike earlier that day. You all prayed she would have a healthy pregnancy. Suddenly, you get this picture of God holding her little baby in His hands in her womb and the glory of the Lord surrounding her womb. Then two other members on your team, plus you, shout this is Solomon. You get to share this word with the husband and wife. The peace of God just washes over you and the family.
Overall, it was a pretty amazing week out on our last expedition in the bush. Each day looked a little different; but there was a lot of hut to hut evangelism and every night a meeting. Also, there was kid’s ministry, a leadership conference, and a futbol game. The seeds that were planted during that time are taking root; because they fell on fertile ground and they will grow as the discipleship process continues to water the seeds planted. God is moving in Nyawa village and in the nations. We had some great testimonies and victories of God’s goodness besides the one shared above. Overland Missions is a great team whom I am going to be joining staff on. I will update more on that soon; because I will be fundraising/looking for partners to be a part of God moving in the nations. Love you all.
